How to care for artificial grass

April 15, 2021
The maintenance of artificial grass has nothing to do with that of natural grass. In fact, because it is made from synthetic materials specifically designed for outdoors, its care is minimal. However, if you do not want it to spoil over time and always look splendid, it is important that you follow a series of recommendations. Next, we are going to give you tips from Brycus that will be very useful for you.
How to care for artificial grass

The maintenance of artificial grass

First phase: sweeping

Sweeping is the first thing you should do to care for the artificial grass that you have installed in your garden, your terrace or any other area of your home. Keep in mind that, when you are outdoors, a multitude of leaves, small branches, papers and other elements can fall into it that deteriorate your aesthetics.

The sweep can be carried out simply with a large broom. In this sense, it may be helpful to vacuum it a little beforehand, but always taking care not to suck the silica sand that the artificial grass has at its base.

In addition, there are special rollers that, when passed over the surface, capture these annoying dirt residues, which will help speed up the task. Never use pointed utensils as you can damage the base of the artificial grass.

Second phase: hairstyle

To perform this maintenance task, you will need to have a comber. It is an electrical or manual device (the first type will allow you to perform the styling process much faster and more comfortably) very useful in this regard. It is made up of a mast with a handle and a roller.

You should know that many of these stylists incorporate a sweep function. This means that, if you have one of them, you can carry out both phases at the same time, which will save you a lot of time.

In any case, once you have the comb connected to the electrical grid, place yourself in one of the corners of the artificial grass and force the roller to go backwards. In this way, its tines will lift the blades of grass. Remember that you must always carry out this process in the opposite direction to which these blades are oriented.

Third phase: the watered

Obviously, artificial grass does not need water to survive and grow as it is not natural. However, if you need it to stay long and, incidentally, to lower its temperature during the summer. Keep in mind that when you pour water on it, it will settle on the silica sand and will stay there for quite a long time, which is essential in summer. However, it is not advisable to carry out this task in winter if you reside in a place where temperatures touch or drop below 0º C. This is because ice sheets can be generated that end up damaging the surface.

Fourth phase: applying sanitizing perfume

Thanks to this element, you will kill two birds with one stone. On the one hand, you will be able to improve the aroma of artificial grass, which will be very pleasant if you spend the summer lying on it sunbathing or playing with your children. In addition, you will eliminate insects and bacteria that may have adhered to it, so you will feel much more secure.

Fifth phase: replenish the silica sand

It is possible that, due to the wind and the use of artificial grass, the silica sand contained in it can be displaced and lost. Only by replacing will you get the blades of grass to stay upright like the first day. To carry out this process when necessary, what you should do is fill in the empty gaps, just after having brushed and watered the artificial grass, equally with said sand. This way you will also enjoy a completely uniform surface.

We have already finished giving you advice from Brycus that will help you keep your artificial grass in perfect condition. Remember that all the phases that we have just described you must carry out, at most, every three months. And, if it is summer and you are going to use the surface intensively, every month. Only in this way will you make it look radiant and make its life as long as possible.
